An opening date is set for retailer Anthropologie’s store at Mayfaire Town Center in Wilmington, while a popular sports bar, Fox and Hound, has closed its doors and construction continues on a Westin brand hotel.

Anthropologie’s 8,200-square-foot store is under construction and is expected to open Nov. 22, according to Mayfaire’s website. The Mayfaire location, 6807 Main St., is the retailer’s only store in Wilmington.

Pennsylvania-based Anthropologie has more than 200 stores nationwide, and officials announced the Wilmington location in May. The store offers shoes, clothing, accessories, beauty products, furniture, home decor, garden and bridal items and more, according to its website.

While construction continues in Mayfaire on Anthropologie and an Element Hotel by Westin on International Drive, which is set to open in late 2024, a long-standing bar and restaurant closed at the center.

Fox and Hound, 920 Town Center Drive, closed Monday. The bar's furnishings were listed for free on a “Wilmington NC Marketplace And Freebies” Facebook group. The post, entitled “Restaurant Liquidation Sale,” included the address of the restaurant, and received comments from other group members identifying the listing as Fox and Hound.

The Mayfaire bar and restaurant was one of five Fox and Hound establishments across the country. The restaurant has another North Carolina location in Huntersville, according to its website.

“We are disappointed to learn that Fox and Hound will be leaving Mayfaire,” said Paige Coniglio, Mayfaire marketing director, in an email Tuesday.

Coniglio said Mayfaire officials are asking for patience from community members until they find a tenant to fill the space left by Fox and Hound. The center wants to upgrade its mix of tenants, she said.

In addition to the openings and closings at Mayfaire, the Wilmington-based Reeds Jewelers at 926 Inspiration Drive at Mayfaire Town Center is expanding into the neighboring space that used to hold a Spectrum store, said Mitch Cahn, Reed’s vice president of marketing.

The Spectrum store moved from 932 Inspiration Drive to the back of the center, 820 Town Center Drive.

The current Reeds 5,500 square-foot space will grow to almost 9,000 square feet with the addition of the space next door, Cahn said. The jeweler hopes to create a Reeds flagship store with the expansion as the company opens more locations nationwide, he said.

While new tenants have joined the mix in recent years, Mayfaire Town Center and neighboring shopping area, Mayfaire Community Center, have at least two vacant spaces, but almost all spaces are under a leasing contract, a Mayfaire spokesperson told the Greater Wilmington Business Journal.
